Matt Gutierrez (born June 9, 1984 in Concord, California) is an American football quarterback. He was signed by New England on May 8, 2007 as an undrafted rookie free agent and made the team as the third quarterback. On August 30, 2008, Gutierrez was part of the final cuts as the Patriots cut down to the mandatory 53-man roster, but was re-signed on September 10, 2008 after a season-ending injury to Tom Brady.

Gutierrez played high school ball for perennial powerhouse De La Salle, where he never lost a game as a Spartan. He then went on to play at the University of Michigan, where he was slated to be the starter in 2004 before he suffered a shoulder injury (a torn labrum). Gutierrez then transferred to Idaho State University, where he started at quarterback in 2006.

Gutierrez played in his first career regular season game on September 9, 2007 against the New York Jets. He completed his first regular season pass for a 15 yard gain against the Miami Dolphins.

The Patriots released Matt Gutierrez on August 30, 2008. During preseason, Gutierrez had completed 29 out of 45 passes for 362 passing yards. He had also thrown two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Patriots signed him to their practice squad on September 10, 2008.[1] He was signed to the team three days later on September 13, 2008.
